Hearing begins on Sapkota's case

KATHMANDU, June 14: The Supreme Court on Tuesday began hearing on a writ petition filed against Minister for Information and Communications Agni Sapkota.



A division bench of SC Justices Ram Kumar Prasad Sah and Prakash Wasti is hearing the petition.



Some human rights activists had filed a writ petition at the apex court against Sapkota nearly three weeks ago, accusing him of masterminding the murder of Arjun Lama, a Kavre local, during the conflict. [break]



Lawyers pleading on behalf of the writ petitioners have demanded an interim order to prohibit Minister Sapkota from discharging his duties.



A total of eight lawyers including senior advocates Harihar Dahal, Laxmi Bahadur Nirala, lawyers Hari Krishna Karki, Tikaram Bhattarai, Satishkrishna Kharel, Hari Phuyal, Govinda Prasad Bandi and Rudra Sharma pleaded on behalf of the writ petitioners.



Defense lawyers will plead on behalf of Minister Sapkota on Wednesday.
