The hailstone on March 24 caused damage worth hundreds of thousands of rupees at Kimathanka, Chepuwa and Hatiya VDCs.[break]
According to delayed information, rain accompanied by hailstone and high winds battered cash crops, vegetables and fruits in these mountain villages.
Potato, wheat, barley, oats, buckwheat, onion and cardamom grown by farmers in the VDCs were destroyed by the hailstone and high winds causing damage worth millions of rupees. Similarly, over 75 cattle perished due to the hailstone, it is learnt.
President of local Bhotiya Youth Club Chhiripasa Bhotiya said the hailstone and heavy rain triggered landslide at different places. The mule track linking Pathivara VDC to Hatiya VDC has been cutoff as the path has been washed away by landslips at five different places.
