POKHARA, March 28: Maoist Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday claimed that the late Girija Prasad Koirala wanted the current government to step down.

Speaking at a press meet in Pokhara, Bhattarai said, “Girija Prasad Koirala used to say in the high-level political mechanism meetings that the government should be dissolved. UML leader Jhalanath Khanal is the witness to it.”

He said the Maoist-led government had even named a coordinator for the formation of a state restructuring commission in the past and that the Maoists are ready for the formation of such commission even now if it is needed. He, however, said that the commission should not encroach on the jurisdiction of the CA Committee.

He said former king Gyanendra is trying fish in troubled waters but he would get nothing more than a crab.

Responding to a query, he said the Maoists are not for ethnicity but for nationality.

He warned that the activities of the so called Brahmin and Chhetri societies can incite violence in the country. He said Brahmins and Chhetris have never been suppressed on grounds of language, dress and culture.
