“The Nepali Congress plans to keep the current government in place until fresh elections are held,” said Poudel. “I do not see any possibility of a Maoist-led government right away.”
Asked if the government would collapse after the Tihar festival as claimed by the Maoists, Poudel said, “They were earlier saying that the government would collapse in Dashain and now they have begun saying it would collapse after Tihar.”
He said that such claims by the Maoists do not contain any truth.
On the occasion, Poudel also ruled out any cancellation of the party´s mahasamiti meeting scheduled for this year.
He said that the party central committee is not in favor of deferring the meeting even though party president Girija Prasad Koirala has suggested doing so. He added that the party´s general convention and the mahasamiti meeting will be held on schedule.
