Govt to offer tourist bus park space on lease

POKHARA, Jan 27: The government is preparing to offer land being used as tourist bus park in Pokhara to a private party on lease.



Tourism entrepreneurs in the lake city has been using the land plot in Rastra Bank Chowk as tourist bus park for the past 15 years.[break]



Town Development Division Office, Pokhara is preparing to invite bids from private parties to lease the land plot after operators of bus park denied to pay rent for the land. "We are preparing to lease the land plot to a private party. The deal is expected to fetch us Rs 500,000 a year," said Rabi Shah, chief Town Development Division Office, Pokhara. He said the tourism entrepreneurs have denied to pay even Rs 300,000 a year as rent.



However, local tourism entrepreneurs have objected the move. They have also warned of strong protest if the government does not withdraw its decision.



Entrepreneurs have been using the land plot as tourism bus park since 1998 when the country celebrated Visit Nepal promotional campaign. They have not paid any rent to the concerned authority.
