Dr Poudel is a university teacher (close to Maoists), who is the principal of Gyan Kunj College, while Karki is a Maoist leader. Dr Poudel was a headmaster of Birendra Secondary School, Nuwakot for 22 years. He holds Ph D in economics. Both the nominees will have to undergo a parliamentary hearing before they are formally appointed as ambassadors. Karki was earlier dubbed as Maoist´s pick for India. [break]
Earlier, the Maoists had recommended Pampha Bhusal, currently the General Administration Minister, for France. But, her appointment couldn´t move ahead after France didn´t agree on her name.
The cabinet meeting passed three programs to address the acute power shortage. The government decided to provide subsidy in installation of solar power plants in the urban areas, said Dev Prasad Gurung, minister for Law, Justice and Constituent Assembly Affairs.
He said the government decided to provide subsidy to the interested companies from private sector to expand the national power grids and to install captive power generation plants. The meeting also decided to introduce further programs to promote private power producers generating electricity from small-scale projects, he said.
Gurung also said the government will shortly come up with an appeal to the people not to call any banda (general strike) in health and academic institutions, public places and in highways, so as to avoid possible obstructions in framing the new constitution.
According to him, the meeting, however, didn´t discus over the dispute on government refusal to extend term of the eight Nepal Army generals.
