Govt forms commission on teachers' demand

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Following continued protests from teachers who were forced to quit their jobs during the conflict-era, the government has decided to form a commission to make recommendations to address their demands.



A cabinet meeting on Thursday decided to form a three-member commission headed by Jageshwar Subedi, former principal judge of the Appellate Court, Patan. [break]



According to Minister for Information and Communications Rajkishor Yadav, who is also government spokesperson, the government has also decided to appoint Dr Laxmi Prasad Devkota as the chairman of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Development Committee and Sher Bahadur Shahi as the chairman of Nalsingaad Hydropower Development Committee. Similarly, Dr Prabhu Sah has been appointed as the head of the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital, Teku.



Also, the cabinet meeting has given permission to former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana and Nepali Congress leaders Chakra Bastola and Arjunnar Singh KC to receive ´Liberation War Honor´ to from the government of Bangladesh.



Likewise, the government has extended the term of the Landless Squatters Problem Resolution Commission till mid July 2013.
