Govt directs ‘zero tolerance’ policy to curb revenue leakage

KATHMANDU, April 2: The government has decided to launch a campaign to control revenue leakage, directing authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against such practices.



The decision was made during a meeting of the Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee held at the Ministry of Finance on Thursday. Officials from various departments briefed the meeting on ongoing efforts to curb revenue leakage.


During the meeting, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle and Home Minister Sudan Gurung instructed authorities to strictly implement a zero-tolerance approach to prevent revenue leakage.

According to Finance Ministry spokesperson and Joint Secretary Tanka Prasad Pandey, the ministers also directed agencies to maintain close surveillance along border areas and intensify market monitoring.


Pandey said the ministers emphasized strengthening monitoring both within and outside border points to effectively control revenue leakage. The meeting also decided to form a task force that will work with a concrete action plan to help meet revenue targets, with progress to be reviewed in the next meeting.


The decisions made during the meeting will be forwarded to the concerned agencies for implementation. The meeting was attended by the finance and home ministers, heads of relevant departments, and chiefs of all three security agencies.
