Speaking at a function organized by his office to congratulate the new executive committee of FNJ, PM Khanal said that the government would also help construction of FNJ building.[break]
“Bring to us the comprehensive proposal, the government will help,” he said while Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, who was also present on the occasion, said that the government could include that in the upcoming budget.
PM Khanal also requested FNJ to support in institutionalizing achievements of the people’s movements. “I hope FNJ will support for peace and constitution,” he said. “I am confident to complete peace and constitution for which media’s role will be important.”
Adding that the 23rd General Convention of FNJ had been historical, PM Khanal said that Nepali leftists, who also have dominance in the 31-member FNJ committee, had a history of commitment to democracy. “So non-leftists friend should not worry, Nepali leftists have always fought for democracy,” he said.
Newly elected FNJ president Shiva Gaunle said that the government should step forward for journalists’ safety.
Meanwhile, the newly officer-bearers assumed office on Friday morning. Immediate past president Dharmendra Jha handed over meeting minutes to president Gaunle amidst a program attended by Constituent Assembly chairman Subas Nemwang.
Similarly, FNJ held the first meeting on Friday morning. The meeting will continue on Sunday to formulate action-plan for the proposal of peace and constitution that was passed by the General Assembly.
