Govt calls Central Security meeting

KATHMANDU, July 15: Home Ministry has decided to call a meeting of Central Security Committee on Friday to assess country´s security situation in the aftermath of multiple bomb blasts in Indian financial capital of Mumbai Wednesday evening.



According to Home Ministry Spokesperson Sudhir Kumar Shah, the meeting to be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara will discuss the ramifications of the serial blasts in Mumbai on Nepal´s security situation. The meeting will also discuss the need for additional security measures and precautions required to prevent or deal with similar incidents in Nepal. [break]



The Central Security Committee headed by the home minister comprises home and defense secretaries, chiefs of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department and Lieutenant General of Nepal Army. Chief of Peace and Security Division at home ministry is the member secretary of the Committee.



At least 17 people were killed and dozens others injured in the blasts carried out by an unidentified terrorist group in Mumbai Wednesday evening.



Issuing a press statement on Thursday, home ministry strongly denounced the terrorist attack, expressed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.



In a message sent to his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on Thursday, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal expressed heartfelt condolence and sympathies to the families of those killed in the multiple bomb explosions. Prime Minister Khanal strongly condemned the blasts, and described them as cowardly acts of terrorism.



Prez condemns Mumbai blasts


President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has condemned the blasts that rocked Mumbai on Wednesday, and expressed condolence to the kin of the deceased. According to the office of the president, Yadav expressed sadness over the incident in his letter sent to the offices of the president and the prime minister of India. Meanwhile, the government has termed the blast a “cowardly act.” Issuing a statement on Thursday, the home ministry also condemned the act and wished swift recovery of those injured in the blasts.
