Government to deploy NA in 'riot zones'

KATHMANDU, Aug 24: The government has decided to deploy Nepal Army (NA) in riot zones in different parts of the country.

Speaking before the Legislature-Parliament Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam informed that an emergency meeting of the security council decided to mobilize NA in Tikapur of Kailali, Malangawa of Sarlahi and Gaur of Rautahat.Minister Gautam said that the council concluded that Nepal Police & Armed Police Force alone can't maintain order and army need to be mobilized in those areas.

“Meeting of the security council has decided that as per Local Administration Act, Chief District Officers will deploy NA in emergency-areas,” Gautam said.

Minister Gautam informed that APF Head Constable Ram Bir Tharu was set on fire by protesters, while SSP Laxman was stabbed with a spear.

“Rest of the security personnel were also stabbed,” he added.
