"As Home Minister P Chidambaram told us that some time was needed to study the demand of a separate state, we agreed to go for an interim authority," GJM Publicity Secretary Dr Harka Bahadur Chhetri told Republica.

According to him, the parties to the talks are scheduled to ink a draft agreement to this effect after the central government prepares it in the first week of February.

In the talks headed by Chidambaram, Minister for Municipality Development Ashok Bhattacharya represented the Bengal government and GJM General-secretary Roshan Giri represented the Morcha.

Dr Chhetri further said an agreement was also reached during the talks to form a joint team for demarcation and feasibility study of a separate state and that the issue of Gorkhaland state will be finalized as per the findings submitted by the team.

GJM, which was formed on October 7, 2007, has been demanding a separate Gorkhaland state.
