The signing ceremony was attended by Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun and Germany´s Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gudrun Kopp.

Prior to the signing, Pun and Kopp held talks on Nepal´s political situation and bilateral economic cooperation. Kopp expressed Germany´s commitment to raise the volume of assistance to Nepal.

Kopp said Germany was eager to provide assistances on hydropower development, agriculture, tourism, health and education sector. She even informed Pun that German private sector was interested on investing in various business sectors in Nepal, but raised concerns over weak investment environment in the country.

Kopp expressed concern over slowing up of the peace process, constitution drafting and human rights situation.

Pun, on the other hand, said that the present government was making all efforts to conclude the peace process and constitution drafting on time, and had also taken steps to improve governance and strengthen economic prosperity.

“Peace process is heading towards logical conclusion and constitution drafting too is almost in the final stage,” the statement issued by the FM´s press advisory team quoted Pun as saying.

Pun apprised the visiting Parliamentary State Secretary that integration of combatants had stalled due to problems over ranks. Once that was settled, he said the integration, a major component of the peace process, will concluded swiftly.

He also informed the government was preparing to form Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on Disappearance. Those would be formed as soon as their bills are ratified by the parliament.
