Addressing the daylong Women Entrepreneurs’ Product Exhibition and Award Ceremony organized here on Saturday on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Rita Bhandari president of FWEAN, that preparations were underway to organize product exhibition of international standard in Nepal next year. “This exhibition is just a model exhibition with few exhibitors. Next year we will be holding large-scale exhibition of women entrepreneurs of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region,” she added.
Saying that women development is impossible unless they are made economically independent, Bhandari said the government should help women entrepreneurs by bringing women-friendly policies.
Speaking at the program, Minister for Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa said women-friendly policies were necessary for empowerment of women. Stating that women entrepreneurs play a crucial role in country’s export trade, Thapa said the government was planning to endorse a new commerce policy which will address different issues related to women entrepreneurs.

Similarly, Bhawani Rana, head of Agro Enterprise Center under the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said local women entrepreneurs were facing number of challenges regarding quality of products, use of technology use, investment, and market promotions. “Once women are economically independent, they can fight in other sectors,” she added.
Similarly, Dinesh Shrestha vice president of FNCCI said FWEAN has been playing active role to encourage women entrepreneurs. He slammed the government to failing to address problems faced by women entrepreneurs in particular and other entrepreneurs in general.
Shova Gyawali, executive board member of FWEAN, informed that the federation has presence in 26 districts. “We plan to have chapters in all 75 districts in the near future,” she added.
