Funeral procession for protesters killed during Madhes protest begins

BIRGUNJ, Sept 5: A funeral procession for the five protesters killed by the security personnel during the Mades protest has begun in Birgunj on Saturday.

Shouting slogans, 'Long Live Martyrs,' Long Live Madhes Movement', thousands of people including cadres, civil society leaders, industrialists and relatives have participated in the procession.


The procession which started from Narayani Sub Regional Hospital passed through Akhaliya, Adarshanagar, Maisthan, Pratima Chowk and finally reached the Tilawe River for final rites, said Pradip Yadav, Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum, Nepal, Prasa district.

The indefinite curfew enforced by Parsa District Administration has been lifted from 9 am until 2 pm.

The security personnel have been kept standby at various junctions to prevent any untoward incidents.

The kin and the leaders had agreed to receive the bodies after the government promised to declare them martyrs and due compensation for the concerned family members.

Dilip Chaurasiya, Dharmaraj Singh, Dinanath Sah of Prasauni-8, Jaya Prakash Sah Teli and Sohan Sah of Birgunj-19 had been killed in police firing during the Madesh protest.
