Addressing a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union in Dang, Minister Sherma said: “Either we should extend the term of the Constituent Assembly or should go to people for fresh election.” [break]
He added that the validity of the CA will finish should the parties fail to extend the term of the CA that expires May 28.
Minister Sherma said the government is committed to forging consensus with the Maoists to avoid constitutional vacuum that may come after May 28. “It will prove suicidal to the Maoists as well if they do not come to consensus,” he argued.
He claimed that the country had seen current political deadlock as the Maoists did not sincerely implement past agreements. He alleged that the Maoists had not been honest enough to facilitate integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants as per past agreements.
He said that the government is ready to integrate the Maoist combatants on the basis of one arm one combatant principle.
