Regmi, 19, originally from Tikapur-9, Kailali, was stabbed by a group of four youths near Shrestha Tailoring Center, Bagbazaar on Sunday. Regmi died while receiving treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.[break]
At a press conference organized at Hanuman Dhoka on Tuesday to make public the four arrested, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jaya Bahadur Chand, who heads the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu, said the murder was committed for revenge.
The arrested are Nishuv Tandukar 19, Saroj Basnet, 19, Rabin Shah, 19, all three from Bagbazar, and Akash Shrestha, 17, from Tikathali, Lalitpur. According to the police, Shrestha and Regmi had quarreled at a dance party over a girl.
SSP Chand said, "It was not an organized crime." Police had deployed 150 policemen in different groups to arrest those involved in the murder.
Akash is an 11th grader at Times College, Nishuv an 11th grader at St Xavier´s, Saroj a 12th grader at K&K College and Shah a 10th grader at Pythagoras Institute. Police have seized a hammer and a screwdriver used in the murder along with a mobile set. All four were absconding after the incident.
