KATHMANDU, Nov 27: Do you want to develop artful negotiating skills? Do you also aspire to be a diplomatic speaker? Then you should certainly apply for South Asia International Model United Nations (SAIMUN), given that you are aged between 16
and 21.
SAIMUN is a simulated platform where participants learn, as active agents, the operations of the United Nations and how it can facilitate international relations to achieve impactful humanitarian goals. The conference, happening on December 25 to 27 at The British College in Thapathali, aims to foster global relationships involving innovative youth of international origins. More than 15 international participants are expected to attend the event, says Secretary General of SAIMUN, Shantam Jha.
Participants at SAIMUN will be divided into various committees, discussing on current or historical world crisis, and through effective debate brainstorm insightful resolutions that benefit the world as a whole. The conference promises to be an all-encompassing event that students from academic institutions in Kathmandu – especially those who never had the opportunity to partake in such conferences before – as well as observers from all walks of life may share in the learning.
“The broad goal of this event is to ignite political consciousness among youth, with the belief that it will help them to be more socially responsible,” Jha shares. The team expects to have delegates from 10 different schools in the valley.
SAIMUN is the first of its kind to be happening in Nepal. The team intends on doing it on an annual basis.
