KATHMANDU, June 7: Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) Chairman Kamal Thapa said on Thursday the country’s latest political scenario could be just the right time for monarchy to make comeback.

The RPP-N chairman argued monarchy is already back on constitutional grounds as all decisions, including the choice for a republican setup, taken during the Constituent Assembly (CA)’s lifespan have been rendered void, with CA’s demise on May 27. [break]

Speaking in the Reporters Club Nepal in the capital, the pro-royalist leader said former king Gyanendra Shah is currently seriously assessing the latest political situation. “He is just waiting for the people’s call,” Thapa added.

Stating that Nepal at present is again in the pre-CA polls mode, Thapa asserted that the CA’s failure to deliver a new constitution has substantiated that the country is not yet ready for republic.

Thapa also wrote off any hope of CA resurrection and said if ever the CA is revived, then that would be the most irresponsible, undemocratic and unpopular move.

Maintaining that fresh polls without fear and favor are next to impossibility under the leadership of incumbent PM Baburam Bhattarai, Thapa demanded new elections participated by all stakeholders under stewardship of sitting chief justice (CJ) or a retired CJ.
