KATHMANDU, Oct 18: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has said that operation of footpath stalls in the valley that were removed during the 18th SAARC Summit last year could not resume.

The KMC maintained that operation of footpath shops is illegal and that these stalls were removed as per the laws.Dhanapati Sapkota, Chief of the KMC's Implementation Department, said that those street vendors trying to resume their business on the streets would be booked and no alternative to them would be provided by the government.

"Such footpath vendors were evicted from the streets of the valley as such businesses may increase road accidents and are inconvenient to the pedestrians," he said.

According to the KMC, around 5000 such stalls were removed from major cities of the valley like old Bus Park, Chabahil, Gongabu, Koteshwor, Gaushala, Banastali, Baneshwor, Sukedhara and Kamaladhi during the summit.

Meanwhile, the KMC said that it is planning to remove such streets stalls from major cities of the valley such as Kalimati, Ratnapark and Rabi Bhavan among others.
