KATHMANDU, April 17: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) has expressed its dissent on the pact that Minister for Labor and Transport Management Top Bahadur Rayamajhi signed with representatives of five trade unions on Friday.

The meeting of FNCCI´s Employers´ Council chaired by its president Pashupati Murarka on Sunday termed the pact ´meaningless´ and decided to move ahead as per the spirit of the deal signed between FNCCI and representatives of major trade unions on March 24.[break]

Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) vice president Raj Kumar Agrawal was also present in the meeting.

“The government didn´t feel it necessary to seek our role while signing the deal with representatives of agitating trade unions. This is a matter of serious concern,” said a participant of the meeting. He also claimed that the agreement was signed due to pressure from a political party.

Ashish Agrawal, member of the council, said the employers would make no compromise on implementation of the agreement signed on March 24, as it was signed by fulfilling all the requirements and under government supervision.

Murarka said the employers will not implement the new pact as the government has not informed the FNCCI about it. “The government neither consulted with us before agreeing to raise salary and minimum wage, nor came forward to discuss its consequences,” Murarka told Republica after the meeting.

Agrawal said they were against changing the earlier agreement signed on March 24. “The government should shoulder the additional burden, as it is the one who promised the trade unions to fulfill their demands,” added Agrawal.

Employers have already revised salary and wages of the workers as per the agreement signed on March 24, according to Murarka.

Two factions of Maoist-affiliated trade unions and trade unions of Madhesi parties signed a deal with Minister Rayamajhi on Friday, agreeing to raise minimum salary of workers to Rs 6,200 per month and daily wage to Rs 231.
