RUKUM, Aug 23: Five have been killed and four severely injured on Tuesday morning as a landslide at Rukum washed away two houses in Khara-2, Hiwang.
Sixteen-year-old Yagya Bahadur Oli, Sete Oli, 14, Meena Oli, 7, Tika Oli, 4 and Laxmi Oli, 16 were killed as landslide buried houses of Jayaram Oli and Pushkar Oli. [break]
Jayaram´s wife, Budhi, 40, his 12-year-old daughter Pavi, Bhadi, 9 and Hira Oli, 6 have been severely injured according to Police Inspector Kishor Shrestha.
Laxmi Oli, daughter of Pushkar Oli who was injured in the landslide died on her way to the hospital. Pushkar Oli´s other daughter´s Meena and Tika died on the spot.
Cattles were also buried in the landslide.
Neighboring houses are also in grave danger due to landslide. A school including dozen more houses are open to risk informed a local Sijan Oli.
Meanwhile, passengers have been stranded due to a landslide in Rapti Lokmarga near Ragechowr of Salyan.
A team led by Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Adhikari and Deputy Superintendent of Police Kishan Thapa has reached the site to rescue the passengers.
Former peace minister Janardan Sharma informed of chartering a helicopter to rescue the injured from the site as ambulance has not been able to reach there due to a damaged section of road triggered by the landslide.
The accident site is five hours away from the district headquarter Khalanga.
