Five die in two separate road accidents

KATHMANDU, March 7: Five people died and over 30 got injured in two separate road accidents in Baglung and Nawalparasi districts Wednesday.



Three persons died and 25 were injured when an inebriated driver plunged a passenger bus off the Baglung-Burtibang road six kilometers from Baglung. [break]



Ruma KC of Bhimgithe-5 in the district and two other unidentified passengers of the bus (Na 3 Kha 8949) going to Kathmandu from Burtibang were crushed inside the cabin, according to Inspector with Baglung Police Santosh Acharya.



Passengers said the bus was being driven by the helper at first, with driver making merry on the roof. Later, the driver took the wheels and the accident occurred around half an hour of his taking the wheels. Seven among the injured have been sent to the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara for treatment. Both the driver and the helper of the bus are absconding, police said.



Meanwhile, two persons were killed and seven injured when a passenger bus and jeep collided head-on in Dumkibas of Nawalparasi along the East-West Highway.



Driver of the jeep, Rohit Tharu, 20, of Manigram, Rupandehi and its Indian helper Sonlal Sah died on the spot when the jeep going to Butwal with chicken from United Poultry Farm of Kawasoti was hit by the passenger bus (Lu 1 Kha 4443) going to Narayanghat from Butwal, according to police.



Seven persons traveling in the bus, including its driver, were injured in the accident.
