In the first quarterfinal match, national player Sipora Gurung´s powerful spikes helped Fishtail defeat Angel´s Heart in three straight sets. Gurung was adjudged woman of the match after guiding her team to a comfortable 25-14, 25-12, 25-11 win over Angel´s Heart.
Fishtail will next face New Diamond ´B´ which beat Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center 3-0. Despite fielding two foreign players, New Diamond struggled hard to win the first set 25-23 but displayed an improved performance to wrap up the match winning the next two sets 25-20, 25-16. Prachi Chaudhary won the woman of the match award.
In another quarterfinal match, NPC saw off New Diamond ´A´ in straight sets. The police squad packed with national players dispatched the young guns of New Diamond 25-10, 25-13, 25-3 to set up a semifinal showdown with Gyanu Baba.
Gyanu Baba fought back from a set down to defeat Armed Police Force (APF) Club 21-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-14.
New Generation Club held to draw
New Generation Club was held to a 1-1 draw by New Sadabahar Youth Club in the Red Bull League Football Tournament at Basantapur ground of Lamosanghu on Thursday.
BF Kuthu scored in the 38th minute to put New Generation ahead and the club looked like heading toward victory only to be disappointed by Buddha Lama´s equalizer two minutes from time.
The other match of the day between Lamosanghu Football Club and Navapratibha Youth Club ended in a goalless stalemate.
Earlier on Wednesday, Miteri Youth Club had thrashed Young Sports Club 4-0 in the opener.
