First statute, then local bodies' polls: Khanal

KATHMANDU, April 8:  CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has described the local bodies as the backbone of nation building and said  the elections will be held once the twin tasks of peace process and constitution writing get over.



Khanal said this while talking over the phone with district leaders and civil society members of Doti from his residence in Dallu on Sunday, the fourth day of his telephonic conversation that he has started to learn of public opinions on the drafting of the new constitution. [break]



The UML chairman talked to UML´s Doti chairman Narad Malasi, Maoist leader Chandra Dev Ojha, civil society member Ganesh Joshi and journalist Shankar Thapa, among others, during today´s conversation.



Talking to them, Khanal stated that there is no reason why the new constitution should not be promulgated once the fundamental tasks of the peace process are completed by mid April.



In the context of the West Seti hydro-electricity project, Khanal said his party is in favor of setting up the project, maintaining transparency and duly addressing local´s demands. On Monday, Khanal will contact local leaders and civil society members of Chitwan district.
