The meeting that was headed by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai reviewed programs implemented by the Ministry and subordinate bodies under 26 different budget headings. The meeting concluded that 78 per cent physical progress and 85 per cent commercial progress was attained from these projects.
The meeting also held discussions about the challenges seen in course of implementing the projects and possible ways to address them.
Addressing the meeting, PM Dr Bhattarai said the energy sector has been negatively affected in the absence of full budget and minimum achievement was due to political instability. He directed the bodies concerned to work with a sense of responsibility rather than pointing out fingers at one another.
The PM also directed the meeting to utilise every opportunity to end the power outage. He also directed the energy and irrigation ministries to move ahead through cooperation, for implementing power outage minimization action plan, focusing on the proposed inter-country transmission line, conducting feasibility study of water resources, irrigation and energy of country on the basis of river basin and speeding the construction works by deducting capital expenditures.
Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission Deependra Bahadur Kshetry expressed the view that private sector having an interest in investing in sick micro and small hydro power projects could be permitted to do so to revive such projects.
In the meeting, quarterly progress reports were presented by the Ministry of Energy, Water and Energy Commission, Department of Electricity Development and the Nepal Electricity Authority.
