KHOTANG, Feb 11: A late night fire in Laphyang, Diktel, headquarters of Khotang district, has reportedly destroyed properties worth more than Rs 1.1 million.

The fire that started from the kitchen of a three-storied house destroyed the house and properties belonging to Tularam Bishwakarma of Laphyang, Diktel municipality-11.
According to the police, the incident occured after someone in the family forgot to put off fire in the oven after cooking dinner. The fire, which started during the night, was brought under control only at 2 am in the morning with the help of neighbors, informed one of the locals Jhulendra Biswakarma. They were not able to save their belongings as the fire started during midnight and it was too late before help could arrive, according to locals.The fire brigade of the municipality couldn't reach the site because of the poor condition of the roads leading to it. Fire brigade of the municipality rarely can come to the rescue of people during fire incidents because most roads in the municipality are too narrow for the fire engine.
The seven-member family of Bishwakarma is currently taking shelter in a neighbor's house.
