The assessments were made at a time when the government has been complaining about low capital expenditure, which is ultimately expected to impede development activities and put a drag on economy.[break]
Tuesday´s assessments revolved around projects related to education, physical infrastructure, irrigation, local development and poverty alleviation, a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance said.
During the meeting, Secretary Subedi, on behalf of his finance ministry, expressed commitment to extend the required budget for projects funded by international aid agencies and development partners. He also urged respective government agencies to complete projects on time and make proper use of development budget allocated to them.
Those participating at the meeting said many ministries were not being able to make use of development budget allocated for them because of inability to introduce full budget on time.
The World Bank Country Manager Tahseen Sayed, who was also present at the meeting, stressed the need to design a work plan to expedite implementation of projects supported by donor agencies so that the government meets its capital expenditure target.
