KATHMANDU, Nov 24: Federal Democratic Republic Alliance (FDRA) has accused President Ram Baran Yadav of taking an unconstitutional move by asking the parties to pick a new consensus prime minister within a week.

“The president can’t ask parties to form a consensus prime minister as per article 38 (1) of the Interim Constitution. This article is only effective if parliament exists, so it is an unconstitutional move,” General Secretary of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Nepal Dan Bahadur Chaudhary said after the meeting of the FDRA at UCPN (Maoist) party office, Paris Danda on Saturday. Citing Article 38 (1) of the Interim Constitution, the president Friday gave a week deadline to political parties to select a new prime minister through consensus.
