But a pall of gloom has now descended upon their hometown after a shocking incident in Tikapur of Kailali left Inspector Bista's daeth . He was murdered in cold blood during a violent protest led by Tharuhat activists on August 24.Since the tragic incident, sobs have been continuing at Bista's house in Jhalari of Pipladi Municipality-11, Deepnagar. Bista's eighty-year-old mother Belu Devi and two younger brothers are in inconsolable state. His wife, Mandara, and four children wail from time to time. Anyone coming to meet them triggers sobbing and moaning.
Bista's brother, Dharma Singha, said that the family has lost their guardian after losing the eldest son of their house. "He used to lead our family. He was the main person of our house," said Dharma Singha. "We hadn't even imagined this situation would arise," he said tearfully.
Dharma Singh is a Nepal Police sub-inspector in Khanchanpur while the youngest brother, Bharat, is with the Shaileshwari Battalion of the Armed Police Force in Jogbuda.
Bista's relatives blame the lack of coordination between police forces for the tragic incident. "This incident is a very bad indication," said his cousin, Bir Bahadur Bista. "Attempts have been made to destroy social harmony. Investigation should be conducted in this matter. The guilty should be brought into account," he added.
Among Bista's four children, the eldest daughter Basanti is currently studying staff nurse while her younger sister, Jayanti, is an I.Com second-year student. Likewise, his son Govinda is a ninth grader and the youngest daughter, Shanti, is studying in class six.
