It is learnt that more than 0.57 per cent of total population in Bheri zone of the region are detected with eye problems.[break]
The district having only 0.2 per cent people with eye problems is only considered ´blindness free´ district, said Manager of Phewatal Eye Hospital, Kaushal Kumar Barma.
Though the hospital has been providing treatment to 120,000 eye patients per annum, the eye-related problems in the region are not in decreasing trend.
Established in 2043 BS, the hospital has rendered eye treatment service to people from Banke, Bardia, Jajarkot, Surkhet, Dailekh and Dolpa districts of the region.
Patients from across the country and even from some Indian states approach the hospital – having a total capacity of 150 beds – for eye treatment, said the hospital sources.
Meanwhile, the hospital would expand its service to eye patients with the construction of a new two-storied OPD building within the hospital premises, said Chairperson of district Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Ratan Tondon.
