Experts acclaim bills on Penal and Civil Code meeting international standard

KATHMANDU, March 23: Experts have hailed the bills on Penal and Civil Code meeting internationals standard of legal provisions, putting forth their comments on the draft of the bills in an interaction the capital.

Former Minister Madhav Paudel, Professor Dr Ranjit Bhakta Pradhanang, Senior Advocate Raghab Lal Vaidya and experts Raju Man Singh Malla and Badri Bahadur Karki had commented on the draft of the bills, in an interaction jointly organized by JAICA Nepal, Parliament secretariat and UNDP Nepal this week.In his presentation, Former Mnister Paudel stated that the bill on civil code envisions modernization of Nepali legal system integrating traditional and modern laws.

Similarly, Prof Pradhanang lauded the proposed penal code bill having provisions that will help the country moving forward to new era of prosperity and development.

Senior Acvodate Vaidya said that civil procedure code bill has provisioned scientific method on judiciary. Commenting on criminal procedural code bill, Karki said that the proposed bill will transform the existing laws into timely, modern and unified. Similarly Malla also praised the sentencing bill for having systemic punishment assessment procedure.

Lawmakers, from legislative committee in the parliament, enquired over whether wills system proposed in civil code and equal right of sons and daughters over property contradict.

In response, experts assured that the proposed bill will not contradict with any provisions in the new constitution. But they have pointed out necessity of revisions on the proposed five bills.
