KATHMANDU, Sept 12: European ambassadors to Nepal have expressed concerns over the government move to withdraw criminal cases involving political activists including the Maoist cadres during the insurgency.

They expressed their concerns during a meeting with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Monday.[break]

"It would be wrong to withdraw all the criminal charges against your party cadres," a diplomatic source quoted the ambassadors as telling the prime minister.

But the prime minister attempted to justify the government move saying that it would be difficult for the Maoist party to work in the government with such criminal charges in the court of law, the source said.

Human rights organization and foreign diplomatic missions too have expressed their concerns over the government move to withdraw the insurgency-era criminal cases involving Maoists.
