BHADRAPUR, May 23: A general strike imposed in the nine districts of east Nepal by the Federal Limbuwan State Council led by Sanjuhang Palungwa and the Federal Socialist Movement Revolutionary National Council has paralyzed normal life in the region.

The two ethnic organizations have enforced the banda calling for declaring the nine districts lying to the east of the Arun River as the Limbuwan State. These ethnic organizations are calling for declaring the Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Terhathum and Dhankuta districts east of the Arun River as the autonomous federal Limbuwan state.[break]

There is a shortage of essential commodities in the local markets in the eastern region due to the indefinite shutdown that has continued for 15 days now. Factories and educational institutions are also closed due to the banda.
