ESC start on a triumphant note<br/>KC, Karki into Ramailo Badminton quarters

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Employment Creation Service (ECS), Central and Eastern Regions started on a triumphant note in men´s category of the First National Women´s and Men´s Volleyball League Tournament that kicked off on Sunday at the Jawalakhel Volleyball Court. [break]



ECS had an easy victory in straight sets over Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Club 25-20, 27-25 and 25-23. Likewise, Central faced a tough five set competition from Mid-western region. Central controlled the first two sets 25-2, 25-12 but Mid-western bounced back in the third and fourth sets 25-20, 25-21 to take the match to the fifth set. However, they eventually slumped to a 3-15 loss.







In another match of the day, Eastern played till the fourth set to edge Far-western out. Eastern, who won the first two sets 25-16, 25-22 lost 22-25 in the third, but won the fourth set 25-18 to take over the match.



In women´s category, the inaugural day remained average for the People´s Liberation Army (PLA) Club as they won one and lost one match of the day.



PLA thrashed Far-western region 25-11, 25-10, 25-17 but were humiliated by Nepal Police Club 6-25, 19-25, 12-25. Far-western had a hard fought 27-25, 21-25, 19-25, 30-28, 15-4 victory over Mid-western. Likewise, Western Region hammered Mid-western 25-6, 25-4, 25-3.





KC, Karki into Ramailo Badminton quarters


KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Abhimanyu KC and Prakash Karki advanced into quarterfinals of the ongoing Ramailo Doubles Badminton Tournament on Sunday. KC teamed up with Karki to beat defending champion Suresh Basnet and Finjunath Nepali 35-6.



Pairs Man Mohan KC and Ranjit Dhatani; Khadka Prasad Thapa and Sunil Shrestha; and Kapil Shahi and Parashar Pandey, too booked their places in the last eight of the tournament being organized by Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club.





Swimming Championship rescheduled for Sept 8, 9



KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The 15th Open National and Age Group Swimming Championship slated to be held between September 9-11 has been rescheduled for September 8 and 9.



The championship organized with a view to select players for the 11th South Asian Games was rescheduled as the NSJF Pulsar Player of the Year award is set to be held on September 10. Swimming ace Karishma Karki has been nominated for two award categories.
