The fire which sparked from a mosquito coil kept at the cowshed of local Bijuli Sada had spread to nearby houses and burnt the Mushahar settlement.[break]
According to the Mahuli Police station, the fire has reduced the entire Mushar settlement into ashes. The place lies some 40 kilometers east of the district headquarters, Rajbiraj.
According to local Pramod Sada, the blaze has destroyed everything including cloths, food grains and utensils.
Police have estimated that property worth around Rs 80 lakhs has been gutted in the incident.
According to police, fire brigades from Lahan and Rajbiraj municipalities with the help of locals and Nepal Police personnel had brought the fire under control.
The district police office, the Red Cross, the Mahauli bazar management committee, among others, have handed relief aid to the victims this morning.
