KATHMANDU, June 17: UCPN (Maoist) Secretary CP Gajurel on Friday reiterated that the PLA arms will not be handed over to the government noting that ending the dual security system was a personal decision of party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Gajurel, who is close to hard-line Senior Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya, clearly said that the decision would not be acceptable to the leaders of his camp. [break]

“Chairman Dahal sent the PLA guards back to the cantonments as he wanted it. But we did not like the idea so we have not returned them,” Gajurel told Republica. “We won´t accept the personal decision of the chairman."

Though Dahal decided to end the dual security system and sent the PLA personnel deployed for the security of Maoist leaders back to their cantonments, the Baidya faction leaders have declined to return those in their security.

Gajurel added that they [the Baidya faction] would return the PLA personnel if the party officially decides so. Gajurel was of the view that returning arms would tantamount to disarmament and the disarmament process would not begin before integration process.

Sending back PLA guards and handing over weapons before the integration process are against the policy of the party, said Gajurel. He said that there is a deep internal divide in the party which could split if the issues are not handled properly.

"Everything depends on how the chairman will handle these issues," said Gajurel.
