Yuba Raj Pandey, secretary at the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management (MoLTM), said the centers will be set up at the existing units of the MoLTM [Labor Offices] in 12 zones while new offices will be established in two zones.
Pandey said the centers will be set up at Labor Offices in Jhapa, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Hetauda, Kathmandu, Butwal, Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj and Pokhara. Skilled Development Training Centers in Parbat, Dang and Mahendranagar will be used to set up the centers. New offices will be opened in Udaypur and Jumla.
“We will begin working on the centers soon as all required manpower quota for the centers are approved by Vacancy Committee,” said Pandey. The plan the set up the centers was approved by the Ministry of Finance recently.
The Vacancy Committee is headed by secretary of the concerned ministry and it approves the vacancies for non-gazetted staff for the ministry. Each center will be manned by a non-gazetted first class staff (Subba), a computer operator and an office assistant.
At time when government has no exact data on skilled manpower who are seeking jobs and employment opportunities, such information offices will provide the government with necessary information to formulate policies. Every year, about 300,000 educated youths enter the domestic labor market. And much to the government’s relief, about 239,000 Nepali workers left for overseas jobs during the fiscal year 2007/08.
The government has allocated a budget of Rs 7.7 million for the current fiscal year to set up the centers.
