The emerging trend of academic fairs has turned out to be a huge help in solving these problems.
According to Ramesh Thapa, event manager of Direction Exhibition and Convention Center agrees that these fairs are on the rise. He was of the belief that education fairs are bringing positive changes and progress to the academic sector. He said that “The main objective of these events is to wipe out the confusion students face in choosing a faculty and a college especially for SLC graduates.” Thapa, added that the rise of such fairs was not unnecessary for they proved beneficial to students providing them with much information under a single roof.
Trilokeswor Malla, managing director of Direction Exhibition and Convention Center supported Thapa saying that students nowadays plan their academics and future before hand. Before, children used to take up whatever subject their parents advised but in this era, students are focusing on their own interest. These fairs are of great help to the students in taking such decisions.
“Because there are a lot of colleges these days offering a lot of faculties, students are facing much confusion in what is best suited for them. The trend of education fairs in Kathmandu is increasing to meet the demand of these large numbers of students and also colleges,” said Malla. He claimed that the stalls of different educational institutes and consultancies in the fair are put up with the aim of giving students much information in a short period and under the same roof.
Today students are really gripped by these fairs. They are however, taking it positively and they reason that they can access better education and counseling from professionals through such fairs.
And because the students are demanding, the trend of organizing such educational fairs is increasing. But there are also those who take part in such fairs with a business motive and disseminate fake information. Agreeing that there are few such institutions they say that they make an effort to select genuine consultancies and educational institutions.
Prakash Pandey, Managing Director of Mate’s education was of the opinion that this trend of education fairs in Kathmandu is rising because these day’s the number of students who plan on abroad studies has had a significant rise and such fairs have proved very beneficial. At such fairs, students get information on various colleges and it is easier for them to decide whether to study in Nepal or abroad.
Shweta Khand, 20 who claims to have visited the ECAN Higher Education and Career Fair is of the opinion that, these educational fairs are conducted in order to facilitate students to choose a college or university in proportion to their economic background along with their interests.
Students get a chance to learn about national universities, colleges, educational clubs and associations, abroad study consultancies, training institutes and obtain psychological counseling from these events and that too, all in one static location. She said “These fairs should be frequently conducted in order to help out students who are facing an educational predicament.”
The rising trend of educational fairs seems to be happily accepted by students and organizers alike. The various participant institutes also agree that they are of help to both students and to themselves. Also, such fairs are proving beneficial to those students who are not aware about educational institutions and consultancies but wish to pursue higher education at an institute which meets their educational demands and is within their financial reach.
