MAHENDRANAGAR, June 8: After four decades of its establishment, the district hospital, Baitadi, has introduced emergency delivery service from Friday. This has quite relieved the villagers who had to rush to Dadeldhura hospital or even cross the border to India during emergencies.

“Due to lack of emergency service, the locals were compelled to go to other districts or as far as to India for child delivery,” said Gunraj Awasthi, a senior doctor at the hospital. [break]“It is a huge relief for the villagers as the district hospital is providing the service now. It will save them money, time and energy and most importantly life,” he added.

According to the doctor, the district had high child and maternal mortality rate as only the rich people could afford to deliver babies outside the district. “The emergency service will make a huge difference mainly for the poor,” he said.
