Jaggu Harijan, 62, retaliated against 10 robbers who forcibly entered his house posing as policemen and killed one of the intruders Shiva Kumar Kurmi of Manikapur-2. A police team that reached the spot at 3:30 in the morning, found a gun, four rounds bullet and a cell phone. [break]They identified Kurmi as he had previously been detained in theft cases.
“They asked me to open the door saying they were police officers,” Harijan told Republica. “They put guns on both sides of my head after I opened the door,” he added. He then swore at them calling them robbers. One of the robbers opened fire at him but he somehow evaded the bullet and got hold of the axe tucked under the roof.
“I couldn´t see anything in the dark and swung the axe indiscriminately hitting at whoever came in front of me,” he revealed. His two sons, Bohori and Guru, emboldened by their father´s move charged at the dacoits with sticks. Kurmi died on the spot after being hit on his head. “They fled after another two got hit on their heads with axe,” Bohori said.
The robbers had looted houses of Gopal Dhobi and Range Dhobi before attacking the Harijans. “They tied my hands and took me along to identify the houses of the rich,” said Gopal, who earns his livelihood as a daily wage worker. They robbed Rs 2,050 and jewelries from Gopal´s house and Rs 50,000 and jewelries from Range who runs a grocery shop.
