BAGLUNG (TARAKHOHOLA), June 9: An elderly couple who lost their sons during Maoist insurgency 10 years ago are leading a desolate life and making rounds of government offices and rights organization so they recieve compensation for their losses.

Khadga Bhadur Damai, 71, and his spouse Baisamala of Tarakhola-2 said their sons - Tek Bahadur and Sak Bhahadur were carpenters when they were detained by the army as they returned home from work.[break]

"They were taken into custody while returning home from the work, and were killed later," Baisamala said. "But we haven´t recieved any compensation from state."

The two were reportedly killed in a forest on the border region of Baglung and Magdi districts during the heights of insurgency. "If they were alive, we would not have been squatters," she said.

The Damai couple is making their livelihood by selling fire woods. “Now we are unable to carry heavy loads. So we are making rounds in the hope of getting compensation,” septuagenarian Khagda Bhadur said.

Damais couple are also worried that the decaying wooden roof of their shack won´t be able to stop the rains during the monsoon season expected to start in less than two weeks. “We have nowhere to hide during this monsoon,” he said.

Though, 159 people of Baglung lost their lives in the period of conflict only 133 have been compensated. The District Administration Office acknowledged that some of the victims might have been left out due to technical reasons. “We will write to the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction if we get application from deprived victims,” Chief district Officer, Mahadev Pantha said.
