DADELDHURA, Sept 3: At least eight people have died of snake bite in the hilly areas of the Far West region in the last two months alone.

While five people died of snake bite in Dadeldhura district, three died in Baitadi district. [break]

According to Prithvi KC, chief of Team Hospital in Dadeldhura, people brought to the hospitals several hours after the snake bites died as the venom had already spread to most parts of the body. “Those who were taken to hospitals on time have survived,” says KC.

“In remote areas, people tend to approach shamans or faith healers for treatment of snakebites. This is why so many people have died of snake bites in such a short period.”
