As a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Nepal Investment Bank Ltd (NIBL) - as the major investor of the campaign - along with other partners had collected garbage from above 8,000 meters on Mount Everest in the region commonly referred to as the Death Zone. [break]
A team of 20 Sherpas led by Namgyal Sherpa under the coordination of Chakra Karki had set out to Everest Base Camp on the April 25 and collected 1,800 kg of garbage.
Addressing a press meet on Sunday, NIBL Chairman and Chief Executive Director Prithivi Bahadur Pande said the documentary would be premiered in December. “We will conduct the clean-up campaign in 2011 as well,” Pande said.
Ang Chhiring Sherpa, former president of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), said the government should adopt appropriate policy to control and clean the garbage in the Himalayas, including Mt Everest.
Along with NIBL, Hulas Steel Industries Limited, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Hotel Association Nepal, Surya Nepal, Everest Insurance, The Himalayan Times, Ace Development Bank, Be Human Nepal, Chaudhary Group, The North Face, Himalayan Paint House and Friends of Himalayas were the other partners of the campaign.
