Educational institution-run radios face financial crunch

KATHMANDU, April 21: The FM radios run by educational institutions have been facing hard times to operate professionally due to the financial challenges, said the people involved in such institutions.



Speaking at a discussions program organized by the Martin Chautari on Thursday, Dr Manju Mishra, Chief of the CJMC FM, said there is a financial challenge to run FM radio broadcasting though it was established with the motives of raising awareness on educational activities.[break]



She said the economic standard of the FM station cannot afford to hire professional journalists while the programmes run by the students were not qualitative.



Representative of Mero FM Dipak Samir said the FMs run by the educational institutions should broadcast programs on education with clear vision and mission not merely the activities of the colleges and schools.



CJMC FM was established some six years ago while Madan Bhandari Memorial College has been running Mero FM for three years. Similarly, RR College is also operating the TU FM.
