Candidates should file their nominations from their respective election constituencies to contest under the FPTP system in the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election scheduled for November 19.
According to the chief election commissioner, EC officials at the centre will receive almost all the candidate lists from all 240 election constituencies by Thursday evening.
“The commission will verify the percentages of candidates once it receives the lists of candidates from across all constituencies,” added Uprety.
A meeting of the constitutional body held on Wednesday drew the attention of political parties to file their candidacy nominations in accordance with the existing electoral laws.
“As the election program is moving ahead smoothly and the political parties have intensified their activities related to candidacy nominations, the commission urges all interested political parties to file candidates under the proportional and FPTP systems in line with the existing legal provisions,” reads a statement issued by EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai on Wednesday.
Asked about security arrangement at the offices of returning officers across the country, Election Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, who also heads the security committee at the EC, said, “We have already directed the bodies concerned at the local level to make necessary security arrangements.”
As per the EC calendar of events for the FPTP electoral system, the EC will publish the list of nominated candidates on Friday.
One can file complaints on October 5 against candidates nominated under FPTP and the commission will take decisions on such complaints on October 6.
Similarly, the EC will publish the lists of candidates on October 7 and a candidate can withdraw his or her candidacy the next day.
Likewise, the commission will publish the final list of candidates on October 9 and allocate election symbols on the 10th.
No party withdraws application under PR system
According to the EC, no political party on Wednesday withdrew any application filed for participation under the proportional electoral system.
The commission had asked all political parties, which had filed applications for contesting under the proportional electoral system and subsequently wanted to withdraw, to do so on Wednesday.
