Meanwhile, the monitoring team left a warning against RK Dying and SK dry cleaners, both of which operate in the same area. The monitoring team found that the shops were violating various acts like Environment Act 2053 and Waste Management Act 2070.

They have been releasing harmful chemicals into the Bagmati River near Tilganga, which is harmful for locals and damaging for the aquatic species living in the water. The three shops were not even legally registered.

“We will seal all such firms that are found violating rules and regulations,” said Yubak Dhoj GC, director general at DoE.

According to GC, the monitoring team will visit each and every small scale firms and check whether they are following the rules and regulations are set by the government.

“Because of lack of infrastructure and resources, we have not been able to conduct regular monitoring,” said GC. “Although we still do not have such infrastructure, increasing pollution in the Bagmati River compelled us to act.”
