Don't misuse autonomy in teaching institutions: PM

BANEPA, Aug. 14: Chancellor of Kathmandu University and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said teaching institutions should be free of political interference and should enjoy autonomy instead. However, the autonomy should not be misused, he added.



Attending a meeting of the Kathmandu University here Tuesday, Prime Minister Bhattarai said he was impressed with the activities carried out by the University and implementation of the plans accordingly.[break]



Similarly, Pro-Chancellor and Education Minister Dina Nath Sharma urged the University to remain aloof of politicization and commercialization. He said the government would extend necessary support towards that end.



At the meeting, University Vice-Chancellor Dr Suresh Raj Sharma reviewed the achievements of the past 20 years and presented the work direction for the next 10 years.



The University passed an estimated budget of Rs1.93 billion for the current fiscal year.



The meeting presided over by the Prime Minister and Chancellor Dr Bhattarai amended various rules including college affiliations rule 2050 BS.



Moreover, chartered accountant Gyanendra Bahadur Bhari has been appointed Auditor for this year while Dr Shree Ram Prasad Lamichhane member of the University Assembly. Dr Lamichhane was recommended to the post from School of Education.
