KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Internationally recognized Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan on Wednesday urged National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama not to dissolve internationally affiliated sports associations.

Speaking at the Rupak Memorial Award Ceremony on Wednesday, Pradhan said, "It will be difficult for the country to participate in international tournaments if NSC goes on dissolving internationally affiliated sports bodies. I urge NSC not to dissolve internationally affiliated sports bodies."[break]

Lama who assumed his post in the NSC some two months earlier, had dissolved two associations including karate and athletics.

In response to Pradhan´s plea, Lama said that he was only trying to make the sports body transparent.

"I have not dissolved any association that have conducted general assembly and submitted financial reports," Lama said, adding, "NOC should try to persuade internationally affiliated sports bodies to conduct general assembly and maintain transparency. Some associations have not conducted general assembly for over 14 years."
