Donors ready to continue support to the peace building process

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: Nepal´s development partners have expressed readiness to continue their support to the peace building process in the days ahead as well.



A team representing nine countries under European Union and US led by Robert Piper, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nepal, said this during a meeting with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at this chamber on Wednesday to hand over ´Nepal Peace and Development Strategy 2010-2015´.



´We, being development activists, think that the stress on long-term transformation besides short-term political efforts in the Comprehensive Peace Accord is important. If Nepal is prepared, we will are ready to work in a systematic and organized way on this agenda,´ said Piper after the meeting.



The strategy states that support will be provided with due priority to work in the areas of rehabilitation of discharged of Maoist army fighters, conflict victims, women, implementation of UNSC´s Resolution 1325 and 1820, peace and security and election.



Though the strategy has perceived these areas as important, it states that immediate support can be provided to rehabilitation of former Maoist army combatants, building transitional justice mechanism, return of property, reform of peace and security, institutional reform of police administration and others.



Piper said that the strategy has been prepared with the participation of national and international organizations and experts, bilateral support agencies, international financial institutions, NGOs, ideologues and other people.
